Cambridge is a university city in Cambridgeshire located on the banks of the River Cam about 50 miles from London.
Cambridge was settled during the Bronze Age and later by the Romans. It was also controlled by the Vikings for a period and became an important trading centre. It is most famous for its University, founded in 1209 and is ranked one of the top five universities in the world.
Today the city is home to Silicon Fen, which contains start up companies specializing in software and biosciences. Cambridge Biomedical Campus is one of the largest research facilities in the world.
Parkers Piece park hosted the first ever game of association football. The Strawberry Fair music and arts festival is held on Midsummers Common every year.
