River Derwent 2019 Flooding

River Derwent is located in Derbyshire. It is only 66 miles long and a tributary to the River Trent.

Due to the heavy rains causing major flooding in the Matlock and Derby area in November 2019, sadly a lady lost her life and many homes and businesses were left with water damage. The flood plains did there job in the Matlock area but the hay crop for the local farms were ruined.

Most of the rivers route is rural, with half of its length flowing through the Peak District. Historically the river was one of the first used to power the Industrial Revolution, with the first industrial scale cotton mills. It is now used to supply water to several surrounding cities and for recreation.
